The research Unit of Science and Sustainability Education covers teaching and research needs in education in Natural Sciences, as well as in Education for Sustainability. It adopts a long-term perspective on education, starting at an early age and promoting the education of the citizen who contributes to sustainability, through participatory, interdisciplinary, formal, informal and non-formal education.
In the field of research, the Unit conducts basic and applied research under the cognitive, socio-cultural and systemic theoretical approaches, in the framework of funded and non-funded research programs and in collaboration with research teams at national and international level which are active in the wider field of research for STEAM education (Science Technology Arts and Mathematics Education).
The research Unit operates within the framework of international scientific associations such as 1) International Society for Cultural Historical Activity and Research (ISCAR), 2) European Science Education Research Association (ESERA) and 3) European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI).
Finally, the research Unit supports the publication of the international bilingual scientific journal “Science Education Research and Praxis (research group @formal informal science education- @fise group).
